Acceptable Use Agreement--Internet Terms and Conditions
Internet access to Marlborough School Library has been provided to support research and education. You will be provided with a user login, which will allow you access to library databases (ProQuest, Encyclopedia Britannica, etc.), Internet sites, and file storage on the network. You are to use your account for purposes of education and research only. You may not download programs from the Internet, nor may you access or download video games, online auctions, or pornography at any time. If, during your research you encounter another organization's network, you must comply with the rules set out by that network. Transmission of any material in violation of any US or state regulation is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to: copyrighted material, threatening or pornographic material, or material protected by trade secret. Use for product advertisement or political lobbying is also prohibited.
Vandalism is defined as any malicious attempt to harm or destroy materials or data belonging to another user, the Marlborough School Library network, or any of the other networks to which Marlborough is connected. This includes, but is not limited to: uploading, downloading or the creation of computer viruses; altering and/or configuring the monitor settings; deliberately debilitating computer hardware, software or communication network; removing parts of the mouse balls and keyboards; and defacing or destroying library property (e.g., books, journals, furniture, computer related material of any kind). Vandalism will result in disciplinary action including suspension or cancellation of library and computer privileges.
Privileges: The use of the Marlborough School Library and its services, including Internet access, is a privilege, not a right, and inappropriate use will result in the suspension or cancellation of those privileges. The Library staff may close an account at any time, as required.
Network etiquette: -)
· Be courteous.· Use appropriate language--do not swear, use vulgarities or any other inappropriate language. Illegal activities are strictly forbidden.
· Do not reveal your password, login name or that of any other person.
· Do not use the network in such a way as to disrupt the use of the network by others.
· Be economical with your online.
Security: If you can identify a security problem within the network or on the Internet, you must notify the Library Director, technology coordinator or your teacher at once. Do not demonstrate the problem to other users. Do not use another user's account. Attempts to login to the network as anyone other than yourself may result in immediate cancellation of privileges. You must log out of the network when you are finished. Any user identified as a security risk or having a history of problems with other computer systems may be denied access to the Library network and Internet access.
